Hospital No 8 in Sochi prepared to serve participants and guests of the Olympic Games
The history of the Krasnaya Polyana hospital no 8 in Sochi, Russia, stretches back over 100 years. The hospital originates from a small Infirmary, the main activity of which was phthisis otolaryngology. Over time the hospital began to develop in leaps and bounds and it turned into a medical centre with several medical branches, including therapy, surgery, and neurology. Today, the spectrum of care and equipment of the health facility is at such a high level that it will serve the participants and guests of the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2014 in Sochi.
In the period of 2009–2011, the hospital was completely rebuilt. Finnish company Merivaara Corp. actively participated in the refurbishing project, being the winner of the competition on supply of operating tables and medical lights, as well as furniture for patient wards, gynaecological department and examination rooms. Nowadays municipal hospital №8 is a versatile medical centre that includes not only in-patient departments, but also an outpatient department with a 12-bed day surgery clinic. Additionally the hospital has its own clinical diagnostic laboratory. Therefore patients can get quality medical care, including physical therapy, without being in a hospital on a twenty-four hour basis.
The hospital initially focused on safety and comfort of patients, so great attention was paid to the equipment of the medical centre. The one and two-bed patient wards are equipped with the functional and robust bed Futura Plus produced by Merivaara. This choice was dictated by factors like ergonomics and long lifetime of the product. User-oriented adjustment functions of the bed make the medical care easier, which, in turn, helps guarantee patient well-being and improve the conditions of rehabilitation.
Operating theatres were equipped with multipurpose operating tables and surgical lights by Merivaara. The hospital performs a lot of open surgery, laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery and diagnostic laparoscopy for final verification of the diagnosis in difficult cases.
A rehabilitation centre for quick and full patient recovery is organized on the basis of municipal hospital №8.
"Could you imagine a more favourable place to recover from illness than a resort with mountain climate yet near the sea shore? With rich natural sources of the region and the achievements of modern medicine, our experts have developed a comprehensive program for the treatment of patients with pathologies such as musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, digestive, respiratory, and nervous system and to recover from injuries and operations," says the chief doctor, Vartazaryan Marina Avgustovna, proudly.
The unique combination of medical factors together with the medical personnel’s attentive care allows the medical centre to receive Olympic athletes and guests of the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014.
